"Lover’s eye is a love token and a theme that is rich in history.   I like the story that goes back more than 200 years to George IV in England.   Before assuming the crown, he had been unsuccessful in winning the heart of Maria Fitzherbert.   She in fact fled England to avoid a scandal.   He finally commissioned a miniature portrait of his eye which he sealed in a locket and sent to her with a secretive message.   This story has a happy ending because after receiving the locket, Maria returned to England and they were married December 15, 1785."       -- Marina Terauds
